Ainsley & Willie’s Backyard Festival Wedding in Hawke’s Bay
There’s something extra special about celebrating love at home – and Ainsley & Willie’s backyard wedding on their family farm in Hawke’s Bay proved just how magical it can be.
The lush rose garden became the heart of their day, with a TopKata tipi marquee perfectly nestled into the back lawn, setting the tone for a relaxed festival vibe. What started as a simple vision completely blew them away once the tipi was in place – warm lighting, earthy textures, and open-air beauty all around.
As passionate foodies with a dream of being self-sufficient, Ainsley and Willie even provided their own homegrown meat for The Food Co., who crafted a feast worth remembering. Sharing something they’d raised themselves made the meal deeply personal, and undeniably delicious.
The garden tied everything together, inspiring the palette and styling. The groomsmen’s forest green blazers blended beautifully with the surroundings, while the bridesmaids’ ivory dresses let the hydrangeas, lovingly potted by Ainsley’s mum, take centre stage lining the aisle.
Guests lounged on wine barrels, bar leaners, and beanbags, soaking up the sunshine, sipping drinks, and capturing candid memories on a roaming Polaroid camera – from sweet moments to hilariously unfiltered ones that now live on in a coffee table album.
To top it all off, glamping tents by Nomadic Tents NZ turned the property into a festival-style village, so the celebration could roll effortlessly from golden-hour drinks into a night of music under the stars.
It was laid-back, full of heart, and uniquely them – proof that sometimes the best wedding venues are right in your own backyard.
